when killer battles compete with killer abs
I am writing a review after some time..infact to put it more accurately am writing after some time. Movies are of two types-cerebral ones which make you think and wonder and spectacles which have exaggerated emotions and are full Dolby sound Eastman color. The former has the same effect whether seen on 80mm or 15 inch computer screen. But the latter..well those are the movies. There is a third category which you watch if you want to kill time, enjoy the AC in the hall, hang out etc. That category is also called Karan Johar-Aditya Chopra school of film-making.
Anyway coming to the movie in question I first saw a trailer some time in January and have been hooked since. So when it released on Friday it was impatience to see it that stopped the miser in me from availing Hutch Tuesdays ek pe ek free. And we wanted it to be a spectacle. We wanted IMAX dome. Except dome was playing HappyFeet. (Yeah huh moment). So we jus settled for normal adlabs-the-seat-don’t-move-back experience. This after 1 hour of bus ride and neon lights flashing taxi ride. Also there are actually people who greet each other with “whoa wassup dooood”. The guy behind me did, but then he had an accent and a gal in pink top with 100% sexy written on it. Please am not bitching just that in my blue oversized t-shirt it was country-meets-NYC feeling.
Now back to the movie. If you are a CGI fan, action movie buff, violence craving pervert, a girl or a gay you are absolutely gonna love this one. You have so many special effects your eyes will pop out. The director has even placed the blood drops to precision its claimed. Action is aplenty with enough bullet time sequences to make anyone happy. Heads roll, limbs fall, spears go through bodies and the sand turns bronze. Yeah an I don’t think I have seen so many 6 pack abs ever.
Spartan King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fight to the last man against Persian King Xerxes and his army of more than one million soldiers. The sacrifice of the Spartans inspires all of
The soundtrack is as the doods put it awesome. And each frame is filled with CGI beauty. Its almost overawing in its cinematography that you actually go wow although Gerard Butler is mouthing tonight we dine in hell or Lena Headey tells the Persian envoy that only Spartan women produce real men.
Some criticism has been leveled at the movie for its supposedly inane portrait of the Persians and it is banned in Arab countries. It would have been banned anyways with a R rating. Moreover it’s the Spartans story so they as well be the heroes. So what if Xerxes is reduced to modeling the latest jewellery by Allukas.
Over and all it lived upto its expectations. Do not watch a pirated edition on your comp. it will kill the movie. You may as well watch Mithunda ‘s latest. It’s a paisa vasool even at IMAX.
And yes if you are in Mumbai avoid a restaurant called Great Punjab. If you are option less avoid the butter chicken there. It’s a totally north Indian themed place. People are even trained to check you out when you enter.
